Volunteering

Apart from a small staff team of two full-time and two part-time employees, Equipping Pastors Worldwide is run by a network of volunteers in the UK and relies on several unpaid partners overseas.

We are constantly looking for more volunteers. Here are just some of the ways you might help in the UK:

Roles which require some theological training

Beneficiary Management

  • This role is ideal for a retired pastor and can be conducted from home. You will assess feedback from pastors who have received resources from EPW, determine whether books have been read, decide whether they should receive more and which titles should be sent.

Screening, sorting and selecting books

  • This role is likely to suit someone who is theologically well-read or a pastor who is familiar with Christian books. It requires periodically visiting EPW’s warehouse, close to the M4 on the outskirts of Swindon, to screen donated books, sort them into categories and select appropriate titles for individuals and collections for libraries.

Roles which require no training

Packing and despatch

  • This role requires no expertise at all!  The packing and despatch team meets at our Swindon warehouse every Tuesday morning to box collects of books for individual pastors as well as large consignments, usually a pallet, for our overseas hubs.

Book collection

  • We encourage donors to deliver books to the Swindon warehouse but this is not always possible, so EPW has to arrange collection.  We are in the process of establishing a network of volunteers who can pick donations up and are would love to hear from you if you would be prepared to help.

Ebay sales

  • Some of the books we receive are not appropriate for pastors in the majority world but are still of value so we sell them on Ebay.  We earn, on average, £1,000 through Ebay sales and could receive more if we had a larger sales team.  This role requires no particular knowledge of the books being sold and can be conducted at home in your own time.  You just need a bit of space to store books and the time to upload the details of individual books on Ebay.

Praying

  • Something anyone can do, anywhere at any time.  If you are a praying person, please subscribe to our newsletter and consider attending our monthly supporters’ prayer meeting.  For information about the latter please contact: mtaylor@epworldwide.org
